Bring the work together
A bathroom or kitchen renovation combines demolition, pipework, electrics, ventilation, tiling and finishing. Begin with the layout, selected fittings and connection dimensions so the trades can work from the same plan.
Bathrooms: waterproofing and drainage
Assess the floor build-up, drainage routes and ventilation. Wet areas require a coordinated waterproofing system, including corners, penetrations and junctions. Tiles alone do not define the complete system.
Kitchens: layout and service points
Agree appliance positions, worktop height, sockets and plumbing before preparing the walls. Coordinate supplier measurements and installation with the building work. Decide which existing items will be retained or reused.
Keep the home usable
Discuss temporary washing or cooking facilities, access protection and deliveries. At handover, check the fittings, functions and finishes. Separate bathroom and kitchen guides explain the relevant sequence in detail.

Frequently asked questions
When should the new layout be finalised?
Preferably before preparing pipework and connections. The positions and dimensions of sanitary fittings, appliances and furniture affect building preparation and services.
Can existing pipes remain?
This depends on condition, access and suitability for the new layout. Agree which pipes will be retained or replaced and how concealed parts will be checked after stripping out.
Who coordinates strip-out, services and tiling?
Assign scheduling responsibility in the contract. The sequence must allow for service checks, surface preparation, waterproofing and installation of furniture or appliances.
