Floor tiling costs

Floor tiling costs reflect the substrate, tile choice and finished floor level as well as the area. Different existing floors can require very different preparation.

Assess before ordering

Check the condition of the floor, existing coverings and any height differences. Discuss the build-up around doors, stairs and adjoining rooms. A timber base needs an assessment suited to its movement and support.

Tiles over existing tiles?

Retaining an existing covering is a project-specific decision. Its adhesion, condition and compatibility with the proposed system need to be checked. Additional height may affect thresholds or fittings.

Layout and heating

Agree the tile format, pattern, joint arrangement and transitions. Coordinate underfloor heating and its product requirements with the fixing system. Plan the required waiting time before normal use.

What belongs in the quote?

Separate removal, waste handling, repairs, levelling, tiles, adhesive, laying and finishing. Ask which items are allowances and how unexpected substrate work will be authorised. Compare complete scopes alongside the general tiler cost guide.
