Window frame painting costs

Painting window frames costs more than applying the final coat. Existing condition, material, access and repairs determine the preparation and overall scope.

Costs and included work

For window frame painting costs, compare the scope first: substrate, preparation, coating system and number of coats. A price is useful only when supply and finishing work are clearly defined.

What affects your total?

Rot or crack repairs, masking, access and colour changes affect preparation. A square-metre rate for a flat wall does not automatically apply to window frames, stairs or exterior work.

What to send with your request

Send surface area, photos of the substrate, interior or exterior location and desired finish. Include your postcode, preferred schedule and the elements that must remain, so the scope can be assessed.

Inspect the frames

Check peeling coatings, open joints and damaged timber where relevant. Defects that allow water in should be assessed before the frame is repainted.

Specify the coating system

Interior and exterior faces may need different treatment. State whether opening parts, glazing beads, sills and associated trim are included.

Account for access and repairs

Scaffolding, high-level work, hardware removal and timber repairs may be separate items. Ask for these to be identified so the quotation describes the complete job.
