Paper, non-woven and glass-fibre wall coverings
Each material needs a suitable substrate and application method. Patterned wallpaper requires alignment between lengths. Also discuss whether the covering will be painted after installation.
Preparing the wall
Holes, loose material and significant unevenness may remain visible under new wallpaper. Agree who removes the old covering and what level of wall repair is included.
What should the price include?
Ask about net area, wallpaper type, cutting allowance, adhesive, preparation, repairs, labour and cleaning up. Agree additional work arising from unexpected substrate problems before it is carried out.
Scheduling after plastering
New walls must be suitable for the selected finish. Assess moisture and the substrate according to the product instructions before applying adhesive. Schedule any painting after wallpapering.
Frequently asked questions
Are wallpaper and adhesive included in the price per square metre?
Not automatically. A labour-only price can exclude wallpaper, adhesive and surface repairs. Include the selected wallpaper, material quantities, preparation and application in the same comparison.
Why does patterned wallpaper need more preparation?
A continuous pattern requires matching between strips and can increase cutting waste. Recesses, corners and small wall sections also affect the work. Include the product reference and pattern repeat in your enquiry.
Can new wallpaper go straight over old wallpaper or fresh plaster?
The surface must first be assessed as suitable: clean, sound and sufficiently dry for the selected product. Old layers or adhesive residues may need preparation. Agree drying time and treatment before scheduling wallpaper installation.
