Costs and included work
For painting and decorating costs, compare the scope first: substrate, preparation, coating system and number of coats. A price is useful only when supply and finishing work are clearly defined.
| Work / price basis | Starting indication | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Painting and decorating costs | Price on request | Substrate, preparation, coating system and number of coats |
What affects your total?
Rot or crack repairs, masking, access and colour changes affect preparation. A square-metre rate for a flat wall does not automatically apply to window frames, stairs or exterior work.
What to send with your request
Send surface area, photos of the substrate, interior or exterior location and desired finish. Include your postcode, preferred schedule and the elements that must remain, so the scope can be assessed.
Different work, different measures
Walls may be priced by area, while detailed joinery is often assessed differently. Clarify whether ceilings, frames, doors and high-level work are included in the quoted quantity.
Preparation affects the result
Repairs, removal of loose paint, cleaning and priming can form a substantial part of the job. A lower figure that omits them may describe a different outcome.
Check the total
Ask for material, labour, access equipment and VAT to be clear. Agree colours, finish level and any additional-work procedure before the work starts.
