Maintaining window and door frames

Frame maintenance combines cleaning, inspection and care of moving parts and finishes. Follow the instructions for the specified frame, coating and hardware.

Match care to the material

Timber coatings, uPVC surfaces and coated metal frames need appropriate cleaning products and methods. Avoid applying a generic wax, solvent or abrasive treatment without checking compatibility.

Inspect functional details

Check opening and closing, visible seals, drainage paths and junctions. Report damage or changes in operation early so the cause can be assessed before larger repairs are needed.

Plan painting and repairs

For coated timber, the condition and exposure determine when further work is needed. A fixed repainting interval is not a substitute for inspection. Resolve suspected decay or moisture issues before repainting.

Record maintenance work

Keep product references, repair notes and dates together. For a maintenance quote, describe the number of frames, access, material and observed defects so cleaning, adjustment and repairs can be specified separately.
