Leasing solar panels

Leasing solar panels means comparing a long-term agreement with buying a system. Review total obligations and ownership as well as the monthly payment.

Costs and included work

For leasing solar panels, compare the scope first: panel layout, modules, inverter, cabling and safe connection. A price is useful only when supply and finishing work are clearly defined.

What affects your total?

Compare total payments, contract duration, ownership, maintenance, purchase options and moving-home terms. A low monthly payment does not show the total installation cost. Roof condition, shading, cable routes and the distribution board affect installation. Compare system capacity and included installation; a module price is not a fully connected system.

What to send with your request

Send annual consumption, roof dimensions, orientation and photos of the roof and distribution board. Include your postcode, preferred schedule and the elements that must remain, so the scope can be assessed.

What does the agreement include?

Check duration, indexation, maintenance, insurance, faults, purchase options and moving-home terms. Establish ownership and the costs of temporarily removing panels. Roof renovation may affect those arrangements.

Comparing on the same basis

Compare leasing and buying for the same installation, period and generation assumptions. Include extras and any final payment. Ask the supplier to distinguish forecasts from performance commitments written into the agreement.

Net metering and self-consumption

Dutch net metering ends on 1 January 2027. A new installation assessment should therefore include the situation without net metering. Purchase cost, self-consumption, export compensation and export charges affect the result; a fixed return or payback period does not apply to every home.

Comparing complete quotations

Compare panel number and capacity, inverter, mounting system, cable route, distribution-board changes and commissioning checks. Record any roof work, scaffolding or access requirements. Ask for a clear distinction between supply, installation, extras and maintenance and warranty terms.
