Costs and included work
For installing solar panels yourself: considerations, compare the scope first: panel layout, modules, inverter, cabling and safe connection. A price is useful only when supply and finishing work are clearly defined.

| Installing solar panels yourself: considerations | Price on request | Panel layout, modules, inverter, cabling and safe connection |
What affects your total?
Have load capacity, fixings, cabling and the electrical connection assessed; a materials list is not an installation design. Roof condition, shading, cable routes and the distribution board affect installation. Compare system capacity and included installation; a module price is not a fully connected system.
What to send with your request
Send annual consumption, roof dimensions, orientation and photos of the roof and distribution board. Include your postcode, preferred schedule and the elements that must remain, so the scope can be assessed.
Preparing without unnecessary risk
You can collect drawings, consumption information and photos from a safe location. Work at height, roof-load assessment, mounting and electrical connection require suitable expertise and equipment. Agree any preparation you can perform with the installer beforehand.
Supply, installation and responsibility
Separate purchasing can divide supply, fitting, connection and warranty responsibilities between different parties. Check system compatibility and who takes responsibility for design, installation and commissioning. A list of component prices is not a complete project budget.
Net metering and self-consumption
Dutch net metering ends on 1 January 2027. A new installation assessment should therefore include the situation without net metering. Purchase cost, self-consumption, export compensation and export charges affect the result; a fixed return or payback period does not apply to every home.
Comparing complete quotations
Compare panel number and capacity, inverter, mounting system, cable route, distribution-board changes and commissioning checks. Record any roof work, scaffolding or access requirements. Ask for a clear distinction between supply, installation, extras and maintenance and warranty terms.
