Removing trees

Tree removal may include dismantling the tree, handling timber and dealing with the stump. The safest method depends on the site and should be assessed by a tree-care specialist.

Costs and included work

For removing trees, compare the scope first: survey, groundworks, landscaping materials and waste removal. A price is useful only when supply and finishing work are clearly defined.

What affects your total?

Tree height, trunk size, proximity to buildings, lifting space and removal routes determine equipment; permissions and ecological constraints need assessment. Access, ground conditions, level differences and existing planting can make a flat rate per square metre misleading. Discuss specialist landscaping with a gardener; it is not automatically part of a building contract.

What to send with your request

Send garden dimensions, changes in level, desired layout and access width. Include your postcode, preferred schedule and the elements that must remain, so the scope can be assessed.

Check the tree and address

Local permission or protection rules may apply. Establish ownership and check the municipality's requirements before arranging removal, including where branches or roots cross boundaries.

Provide access information

Photographs should show nearby buildings, roads, cables and the route for equipment. These constraints can influence the method more than height alone.

Separate the work items

Ask whether the quote includes stump removal, green waste, timber and ground reinstatement. Specialist arboricultural work is subject to separate assessment; it is not presented here as a confirmed in-house service.
