Costs and included work
For low-maintenance gardens, compare the scope first: survey, groundworks, landscaping materials and waste removal. A price is useful only when supply and finishing work are clearly defined.

| Low-maintenance gardens | Price on request | Survey, groundworks, landscaping materials and waste removal |
What affects your total?
Low-maintenance does not mean maintenance-free: consider cleaning, pruning, drainage and periodic repairs when choosing materials. Access, ground conditions, level differences and existing planting can make a flat rate per square metre misleading. Discuss specialist landscaping with a gardener; it is not automatically part of a building contract.
What to send with your request
Send garden dimensions, changes in level, desired layout and access width. Include your postcode, preferred schedule and the elements that must remain, so the scope can be assessed.
Choose planting for the conditions
Sun, shade, soil and available space affect plant performance. A gardener can recommend suitable planting and realistic care requirements for your garden.
Keep access practical
Clear edges and accessible beds make routine work easier. Plan storage and routes so equipment and waste can be moved without disturbing planted areas.
Consider surfaces and drainage
Large paved areas also need cleaning and drainage management. Balance usable hard surfaces with planting and water handling rather than replacing every area with paving.
Set a realistic care plan
Agree seasonal tasks and any professional maintenance required. Include the establishment period for new planting, which may need more attention than the mature garden.
