Installation work: the step-by-step guide

Coordinate electricity, water, heating and ventilation before walls and floors are closed.

An overview of preparation, construction and handover. The exact sequence depends on your property, design and scope. Structural work and installations require a project-specific assessment.

Define the scope firstNot every job involves every trade. Moving a socket has a narrower scope than a whole-home renovation. The specialist determines the required checks, coordinated with demolition, wall construction and flooring.

Have suitable specialists assess capacity, connections, routes and access.

  3. Coordinated installation plan

Agree the positions of pipes, equipment and controls across the relevant trades.

  4. Quote and scope

  9. Connect and commission

Connect and adjust equipment and have its operation checked.

  10. Handover

Discuss operation, relevant test and product records, maintenance and follow-up arrangements.

What should you prepare for the site visit?

List the appliances and facilities required in each location. Share existing installation drawings, product details and the new layout. Have capacity and connection options assessed; choosing an appliance is not the same as designing its installation.

Which documents should you keep?

Keep available drawings and photographs of concealed service routes. Request relevant inspection and product information and operating guidance. Discuss maintenance responsibility and who to contact if a fault occurs.

Frequently asked questions

When can walls and floors be closed?

Coordinate this after the relevant installer has completed the necessary checks and important concealed details have been recorded. The finishing trade must know which areas need to remain accessible.
