Costs and included work
For structural calculations for an extension, compare the scope first: foundation, opening into the existing building, building envelope and finish level. A price is useful only when supply and finishing work are clearly defined.
| Work / price basis | Starting indication | Scope |

| Structural calculations for an extension | Price on request | Foundation, opening into the existing building, building envelope and finish level |
What affects your total?
The calculation covers only the structural elements named in the brief; surveys, drawings, permit fees and construction are separate items. Ground conditions, span, glazing, connections to the house and access determine the work. Kitchens, sanitary fittings, building services and interior finishes are included only when specified.
What to send with your request
Send dimensions, photos of the facade and garden, the proposed layout and available drawings. Include your postcode, preferred schedule and the elements that must remain, so the scope can be assessed.
Information for the engineer
Provide drawings, dimensions, photographs and available information about existing foundations and walls. The engineer may need a survey or further investigation before completing the design.
More than one beam size
The solution can include foundations, load paths, beams, bearings, columns and connections. The opening into the home must be considered with the new extension rather than as an isolated alteration.
From design to construction
Agree which drawings and details the contractor needs and how site questions will be resolved. Temporary support and the construction sequence require appropriate preparation before structural work begins.
Quote and permissions
Specify the investigation, calculations, drawings and any follow-up work. Check what the relevant permission process requires. Do not choose structural dimensions from a generic online example instead of a project-specific design.
