Foundations for an extension

An extension foundation transfers the new building's loads to the ground. The appropriate design depends on ground conditions, the proposed structure and its relationship with the existing home.

Investigate before selecting a system

Available ground information and existing drawings may need to be supplemented by investigation. A structural engineer should determine the design information required for the project.

Consider the existing building

The connection between old and new construction must account for support, movement and levels. A neighbour's foundation detail is not automatically suitable for your property.

Coordinate execution and inspection

Include access, excavation, services and relevant checks before work is concealed. Agree how unexpected ground conditions will be assessed and approved within the contract.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a fixed price?

Once the necessary preparation is complete, the agreed scope can be priced. The quote sets out the work, provisional allowances and exclusions. Changes and unforeseen work are discussed separately.

Do I need a permit?

This depends on the work, the address and local rules. Check your plan through the Dutch Omgevingsloket and have structural alterations assessed in advance. Work that does not need a permit must still comply with applicable building rules.
