Renovating commercial premises

Renovating commercial premises requires a clear brief for the building's intended use and the business's operating needs. Layout, installations and compliance questions should be considered together.

Assess the current building

Review condition, services, access and existing use. Changes to occupancy or function may affect the applicable requirements and should be checked for the actual address and proposal.

Plan around operations

Agree whether the business stays open, which areas remain accessible and how deliveries, dust and noise will be managed. Phasing may influence both cost and programme.

Define the handover

Specify finishes, installations, testing and relevant documentation. Record responsibility for specialist design and approvals, and resolve outstanding items before the renovated space is put into its intended use.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a fixed price?

Once the necessary preparation is complete, the agreed scope can be priced. The quote sets out the work, provisional allowances and exclusions. Changes and unforeseen work are discussed separately.

Do I need a permit?

This depends on the work, the address and local rules. Check your plan through the Dutch Omgevingsloket and have structural alterations assessed in advance. Work that does not need a permit must still comply with applicable building rules.
