Installing a gas fireplace

A gas fireplace requires a suitable appliance, gas connection and combustion-air and flue arrangement. Specialist assessment should precede the design of its enclosure.

Costs and included work

For installing a gas fireplace, compare the scope first: appliance, flue, air supply and connection to the building. A price is useful only when supply and finishing work are clearly defined.

What affects your total?

An appliance price is not the price of a fully installed fireplace. Have the existing flue, roof penetration, ventilation, fire-safe junctions and applicable installation requirements assessed.

What to send with your request

Send appliance type, photos of the existing flue and roof, and the intended location. Include your postcode, preferred schedule and the elements that must remain, so the scope can be assessed.

Check the location

An installer should assess the proposed position, available connections and the appliance's requirements. Existing flues and ventilation arrangements are not automatically compatible.

Coordinate specialist and building work

Agree responsibility for gas installation, enclosure construction and finishing. The surround must follow the specified installation requirements rather than be designed solely around appearance.

Confirm commissioning and care

Use an appropriately qualified installer and obtain the required checks, operating guidance and maintenance information. Compare complete installed scope, not only the appliance purchase price.
