Permits for load-bearing wall alterations

For a load-bearing wall alteration, check both the building rules and the address-specific planning rules. Permission cannot be determined from the wall thickness or opening width alone.

Use the actual project details

Enter the address and proposed work in the official Omgevingsloket permit check. The technical building activity and the planning activity are separate assessments; a result for one does not automatically settle the other.

Prepare structural information

A structural engineer should assess load paths, supports and the building around the opening. Drawings and calculations must describe the proposed solution, including relevant connections and bearing conditions.

Agree responsibilities

Record who completes checks, prepares documents and submits any required application. Identify conditions, neighbour interfaces and inspection requirements before committing to an execution date.

Plan before demolition

Do not treat a preliminary quote as permission to start. Coordinate approval requirements, engineering, temporary support and the contractor's work sequence before the wall is altered.
